Take a two-hour small group tour of the French Impressionism Art collection from the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.

With over One hundred paintings we tell the stories of the French Impressionists (1867 - 1886). You will see French, Dutch and American artists who were both friends and competitors that influenced each other and the world. With landscapes, flowers in vases, portraits, and city scenes we show you how French culture changed by discussing historical facts, art history, society cultural norms, and the modern ideals that began to develop during this time.

 
Find Influential Artists highly talented and some less familiar.


 Here the stories of how the artists rebelled against the establishment, how they embraced new technologies, how they overcame cultural norms, how they were successful, and how they managed their failures. Some of the artists feature in your art tour are Claude Monet, George Seurat, Vincent van Gogh, Edouard Manet, Frédéric Bazille, Gustave Caillebotte, Camille Pissarro, Auguste Renoir, Mary Cassatt, Berthe Morisot, Alfred Sisley, Edgar Degas, and Paul Cézanne.

Getting to the National Gallery of Art 

The National Gallery of Art is opened daily from 10 am to 5 pm.  The closest metro station is the Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter.  If you take the metro, when you get out of the station take a left and cross the street.  Walk forward towards the National Mall to Constitution Avenue.  At Constitution Avenue make a Left and walk-up the street towards the Capitol.  As you are walking towards the Capitol you will come across a U-Shaped driveway with an entrance.  This is the entrance to enter the Museum.   Please wait on the ground level by the information desk.  The National Gallery of Art does not have a parking garage.  Please be aware that on the weekend parking in the area is short on demand and not close to the Museum.

  • Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour our of courtesy to the other members of the group.
  • A friendly reminder email with the meeting location will be emailed to you the day before your tour.
  • If you are lost or running late, please contact the organizer.  We will try to connect you with your group.
  • Need to transfer your ticket? Just email us before the start of your tour with your preferred date.
  • No refunds are allowed if you do not contact us before the start of your tour.  

 

About Your Guide Christine Phillips

Christine Phillips

Christine Phillips is excited to be your guide on your next tour. Her undergraduate studies included four semesters of art history and a minor in Art Studies, where she helped install an outsider artist exhibition. Christine received her Master of Architecture degree from the NC State University College of Design and practiced architecture here in Washington, DC. She is a Washington National Cathedral docent and a licensed DC tour guide with architecture and history tour experience. Her passion for art goes back to childhood and spending time in museums has always been inspiring for her. Whether in architecture or paintings, she loves to understand the story behind the art she is seeing and share that story with her guests.
